To the point: Lawrenceville attorney appointed by Governor to advise on Medicaid service delivery to people with disabilities.

Lawrenceville, NJ – Valerie A. Powers Smith, Esq., has been appointed by Acting Governor Richard Codey to a three year term on the Medical Assistance and Health Services Council. The 12-person Council is charged with advising the Department of Human Services on Medicaid issues and ensuring that the true intent of the state and federal Medicaid laws are fully realized.

“I am honored to have been appointed by the Governor to participate in this important process,” said Powers Smith. “As an advocate for people with disabilities, I am looking forward to bringing my heath care law experience to the Council as they work to maximize Medicaid benefits to New Jersey citizens.”

Powers Smith, a 1997 graduate of Widner University School of Law, has practiced in the area of health care law and disabilities for nearly a decade. The former Coordinator of the Health Care Consumer Assistance Program at New Jersey Protection and Advocacy, Powers Smith is now with Hinkle & Fingles, attorneys at law. The multi-state firm focuses its practice on legal issues affecting people with disabilities and their families, including health care law, special education, adult services, guardianship and estate planning.
